Optical dispensing- Optician

Career in Optical Dispensing

Optical dispensing is a professional and academic field specializing in the fitting, making, and adjustment of prescription eyewear and lenses. It bridges optical science and patient care, ensuring that corrective lenses meet both visual and ergonomic needs through precise measurement and fabrication.

Optical dispensers interpret prescriptions from optometrists or ophthalmologists, advising patients on lens types, coatings, and frame options. They perform technical measurements such as pupillary distance and lens centration, then oversee or execute the fabrication and fitting of glasses. Adjustments for comfort, balance, and alignment form a key part of ongoing patient service.
